August Events
Posted 20 August 2010

At our last Newton Wave Pool swim on 14 August, we were surprised to learn that the hot tub was not functioning. As many of our members were very disapointed we approached the pool booking manager and requested compensation. They came through for us and refunded 10% of the rental fee. We're going to give that back to our members in the form of a discount on our next swim in September. And that isn't restricted only to members who came in August - admission for our September swim will be only $9.00 per person!

Some of us will be having a picnic on the beach at the far east end of Barnston Island on the 21st of August (in lieu of our nude cruise which was cancelled. We are hoping to have this beach and part of the adjoining park declared by GVRD to be clothing optional. This would make it the second legal clothing optional beach in Metro Vancouver, the third in Canada and the only one that could claim to be disabled-accessible (with a bit of work). We need to establish some pattern of peaceful nude use so, if you can't make it tomorrow, please consider visiting when the sun is shining. If you do wish to come, bring your own food and beverages (no alcohol, please) and join us in the afternoon, weather permitting. If you need more information or directions, please email us at info@skinnydipper.ca or call the Skinnydipper information line at 604-484-7957.

Summer News
Posted 9 August 2010

We regret to announce that, due to circumstances beyond our control, our nude cruise on Stave Lake which we had scheduled for August 21st has been cancelled. Everyone who purchased a ticket will receive a full refund. We are looking forward to scheduling cruises for next year.

We are implementing new functions of our membership software which will allow us to send out reminders to members whose memberships are coming up for renewal on a monthly basis. We'll be sending out the first reminders this week before our swim.

Summer News
Posted 15 July 2010

As reported in our last entry, we had a booth at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival on the grounds of the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby for the weekend of June 19th and 20th! It was a great experience and we had a very positive reception from the many visitors to our booth. In fact we had many nudist visitors including many of our own club members. We hope to be able to be there again next year.

Last Saturday's World Record Skinnydip day down at Crescent Rock Naturist Beach was an adventure. Our count of 29 this year was short the 46 we had last year (but they were just as enthusiastic). One of the problems was that we had a very low tide and were unable to get our equipment closer than about 1Km to the Crescent Rock. It may have been that people arriving at the beach simply couldn't see us or possibly that they weren't prepared to make the walk out. Hopefully next year the tides will finally be in our favour!

Our next event is our nude cruise on Stave Lake. we are pretty much fully booked but still have space available on the August 21st date. You can purchase a spot at our Newton Wave Pool swim on August 14th.

Summer's Coming!
Posted 11 June 2010

Last night's lucky membership number was 201005002 and we gave away a stylish Skinnydipper Butt Towel to the lucky member.

We have many exciting events planned for this summer and this year we will be starting off the summer with something new. We have booked booth space at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby for the weekend of June 19th and 20th - that's next weekend! We will be meeting visitors to the festival and introducing them to the idea of nude recreation. We will have a good supply of brochures to hand out and, of course, Skinnydipper T-shirts and Butt Towels to sell. If you have Scandinavian heritage or have an intrest in Scandinavian Culture or just want a good time, consider visiting the festival, its lots of fun. The address is 6450 Thomas St., Burnaby. If you come, be sure to find the Skinnydipper booth and say hi and be sure to wear your Skinnydipper T-shirt, too! Check out the Scandinavian Community Centre website at http://www.scandinaviancentre.org/ or the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival website at http://www.scandinavianmidsummerfestival.org/.

Don't forget, July 10th is World Record Skinnydip day down at Crescent Rock Naturist Beach. Last year we had over 35 skinnydippers who contributed to the North America wide record of 13,648! This year we plan to break that record by a wide margin which means that we need to have as many of you come down to join us. We'll be on the beach by 11:00am and start taking registrations by 11:30am. Look for our brightly coloured Skinnydipper Canopy out on the sand (yes, Crescent Rock Beach does have sand).

You can pre-register for the skinnydip by sending an email with your full name, age and email address to info@skinnydipper.ca.

July 10th is also a Skinnydipper swim night at Newton Wave Pool, so you can make a whole naked day of it - from 11 in the morning to 11 at night! Don't forget to bring your payments for the July Stave Lake cruise!

Spring News
Posted 10 May 2010

Our lucky membership number this past Saturday night was 200510007 and the prize of a Skinnydipper t-shirt was not claimed. Better luck next time! It is an exciting time for us this year as we have overcome obstacles on the Sunshine Coast and held our first successful clothing optional swim at Gibsons Aquatic Centre. The turnout was relatively small but still encouraging. We will be promoting nude recreation at Sunshine Coast events this summer. Look for us at the Roberts Creek Mandala Painting Festival on Sunday July 25th. In related news, we have a local rep in the Sechelt area who will be running the Gibsons swims. If you have any questions about nude recreation on the Sunshine Coast, you can email Ray at suncoast@skinnydipper.ca.
This summer we have arranged for two nude cruises on Stave Lake in Mission. July 24th and August 21st, boarding starts at 9:30am at the boat launch on Stave Lake and we will be departing at 10:00am sharp. Lunch is included and we will be returning to the dock at 5:00pm after a full day of skinnydipping and exploring. Tickets are sold strictly in advance and there will be no last minute sales at the dock. See our cruise page for full details.

Sunshine Coast Situation Resolved, More New Events Planned
Posted 24 March 2010

In a stunning reversal of its earlier position, the SCRD has rescinded its earlier decision to restrict our clothing optional swim to "adults only". A letter from the president of the Skinnydipper Recreation Club explaining our lifestyle and the family atmosphere of our events was enough to resolve the misunderstanding. We are now able to book the Gibsons Pool on the same basis as the nude swims in Vancouver, North Vancouver and our own nude swim at Newton Wave Pool in Surrey. Unfortunately, there is not enough time to re-schedule our originally planned swim in Gibsons for March 27th so we will be making arrangements for a date a little later this spring.

We are making arrangements for a new nude cruise for the coming summer. This will be a little different from the Indian Arm nude cruises of the past two years but should be just as much fun. We're hoping for two cruises this season, possibly in July and August.

Watch our website for upcoming announcements soon.

Surrey prejudice on the Sunshine Coast!
Posted 8 March 2010

It seems that we face prejudice on the Sunshine Coast similar to what we have already faced in Surrey. Our clothing optional swim which we had booked and paid for, for March 27th, has been cancelled unilaterally by the SCRD (Sunshine Coast Regional District). It appears they have decided that naturism is an "adults only" lifestyle and they have told us that they would not honour our booking if we intended to admit children to our event. All attempts at establishing a reasonable, respectful dialogue in which we could resolve the disagreement were refused by the District Parks and Recreation manager involved. While it was tempting to accede to their condition, we felt that it was simply too outrageous and that we need to fight this kind of ignorance-based prejudice. We appologize to all who wanted to join us but the circumstances were forced on us by the district. We will be working to resolve this issue and will announce developments as news becomes available.
Our club will continue developing activities on the Sunshine Coast and we expect to have a local manager in place very soon.

New Swim Starting!
Posted 12 January 2010

Do you live on the Sunshine Coast and wish you could get to a nude swim night? Well now you can! The Skinnydipper Recreation Club will be hosting a clothing optional swim night at the Gibsons and District Aquatic Facility on March 27th. If we get a good response, we are hoping to make this into a regularly scheduled event. We will be publishing further details as our planning becomes more firm.

Welcome to another Nude Year!
Posted 10 January 2010

We have had a great start to the new Nude Year with our Polar Bare Plunge attracting 21 brave dippers and a contribution of $210 towards the War Amps! We would love to have more next year. After the event we found a woman's swimsuit in our warmup tent. If anyone knows the owner have her call us at 604-484-7957 to claim it. Our first swim of the year last night was also well attended. We had quite a few new members, too! Our lucky membership number last night was 200803010 and the prize of a Skinnydipper t-shirt was not claimed. Better luck next time! We're looking forwart to a big turnout for our February 13th swim on Valentine's day weekend!

Merry Christmas
Posted 21 December 2009

As we approach the end of another year and prepare to celebrate the holiday season with family and friends, it is pleasant to reminisce about the wonderful naked times we have had in the last 12 months - Newton Wave Pool swims, the summer nude cruise, the World Record Skinnydip down at Crescent Rock Naturist Beach. We are looking forward to another year of great activities spent without clothes in the warm sunshine, at the beach or in the waves at the pool.
How about kicking off the Nude Year with us down on Crescent Rock Naturist Beach for the 4th annual Polar Bare Plunge which we co-sponsor with the Surrey United Naturists? It's a great way to promote Surrey's only naturist beach, to draw attention to the dangers from the railway along the seashore and to raise funds for the War Amps. Last year we raised nearly $200, lets try for over $250 this time and set a new record!
We have another year of swims at Newton Wave Pool lined up starting with January 9th. We'll be at the ABC Restaurant at 7:00pm as usual. If your membership number is 200901017, you missed out on the December swim door prize! Better luck in the new year.
To all our naked friends and skinnydippers everywhere, we wish you the warmest, merriest Christmas and a happy, healthy Nude Year!

Fall Happenings
Posted 15 November 2009

We had a great turnout for last night's swim with about 25 joining us for dinner at the ABC Country Restaurant and 70 at Newton Wave Pool. Our incentive draw winner would have been member number 200901016 (check your membership cards) except that (s)he wasn't at the pool. We still have a Skinnydipper T-shirt to give away but you have to come to the pool to win. See you next month!

August Events
Posted 09 August 2009

Last night's swim had a good turnout and we had a large group of visitors up from Lake Bronson in Washington. We instituted our new prize draw system last night. With our new system we make a random drawing from our list of active members and post the membership number on our sign board in the pool lobby. If the person belonging to that memberhship number is present at the pool they can claim the nights prize. Last night's winner was membership number 200601026 and the prize of a Skinnydipper T-shirt was not claimed. Better luck next time! This week is the last chance to book for our upcoming cruise on August 15th. Call us at 604-484-7957 or email info@skinnydipper.ca to reserve your space!

Skinnydippers Create New World Record
Posted 13 July 2009

Crescent Rock Beach saw a fine turnout for the AANR World Record Skinny-dip this past Saturday with near-perfect weather. Forty six skinnydippers joined us in our contribution to this North America-wide record setting event. Of course, since this is the first such event, we set a record. And, since all records are meant to be broken, we have a fine target to aim at next year. In the days to come all of the different organizers at locations accross the continent will be submitting their official counts to AANR and we will bring you the results as we receive them. The Skinnydipper Recreation Club would like to thank our co-sponsors, the Van Tan Club and the Surrey United Naturists (SUN's) for their part in making this event such a success. We would also like to thank all the willing volunteers who helped carry our gear up the 101 Steps after the event. And finally, a special thank you to the guys who made a valliant effort to push the "Skinnydipper" out into deep water. Despite their best efforts she remained firmly stuck where she lay in the sand and Captain Paul had to spend a brutal afternoon in the blazing sun under a tarp slapping on sunscreen, eating snacks and, for a time, napping while waiting for the tide. The tedium was broken only by a visit by SUN's President, Don Pitcairn and his wife Cheryl who walked out onto the near-dry sand for a chat before returning to their beach blanket. Fortunately the Skinnydipper re-floated on the rising tide just before 4:30 and Captain Paul was able to return home in time to take up his duties as club president and help with the work of putting on the evening's nude swim at Newton Wave Pool. All-in-all a great day!

World Record Skinnydip
Posted 18 June 2009

The Guinness World RecordsTM Organisation has just created a new category for the largest number of people simultaneously skinnydipping and the Skinnyipper Recreation Club is participating under the auspices of the American Association for Nude Recreation (www.AANR.com), the contract association for this event. We will be co-sponsoring this local event with the Van Tan Club (www.vantan.ca) and with the cooperation of the Surrey United Naturists (www.crescentrockbeach.org) down at Crescent Rock Naturist Beach on July 11th. In conformance with stated rules, all participants to be counted must be completely nude during the skinnydip. Efforts will be made to accommodate first time skinnydippers. As with all Guinness World RecordTM events, all record attempts will be "witnessed" by a designated "member in standing" of the local community. Come on out on July 11th at 12:00, noon and help us support "the AANR Largest Skinnydip Across North America". Later, we will be holding our usual monthly swim at Newton Wave Pool starting with dinner at 7:00pm at the ABC Country Restaurant in Newton.

Bare Buns Fun Run
Posted 18 June 2009

We will be down on Wreck Beach for the annual Bare Buns Fun Run on July 5th. Last year we were invited to participate by providing a "bag check" hospitality booth for registered runners. This was so popular with the runners that we'll be down there again this year. Each person who registers for the run can drop their bag with us for safe keeping during the race. Not only is this a free service but each bag check ticket is good for one free swim admission at our Newton Wave Pool swims anytime after the race until the end of this year (membership requirements still apply) Look for our prominent "Skinnydipper" canopy near the foot of trail 6.

Van Tan Open House
Posted 31 May 2009

We will be visiting the Van Tan Club for their open house day on Sunday, June 7th and will, at their invitation, have our canopy up on their grounds. We encourage all Skinnydipper Recreation Club members to visit this beautiful property on Mount Fromme in North Vancouver. As some of you may already know, the Van Tan Club is Canada's oldest nudist club, now in it's 70th year. If you visit the Van Tan club during the open house be sure to stop by and say hello. Contact us by email or phone if you need directions to the Van Tan Club property.

World Naked Bike Ride
Posted 31 May 2009

The WNBR this year will be on June 13th which coincides with our swim night. We will be on Sunset beach for the start of the ride and we encourage all of our members to take part. While the focus of the ride is on cycling, we feel that it is also a great opportunity to show the general publie that the human body is not in itself offensive. Look for the Skinnydipper canopy at the ride start on Sunset Beach. Following the ride, NIFTY will be sponsoring a clothing optional picnic in the same area. This is a wonderful opportunity to have an entire day involved in nude recreation with a naked bike ride, a naked picnic in the afternoon and a naked swim in the evening!

Restaurant change
Posted 10 May 2009

We appologize to any of our members who went to Boston Pizza before our swim this month. We were informed at the last minute by the restaurant that, due to the hockey game that night, they would not be ablt to serve us. This is the second time they have let us down with no warning in spite of them having our contact (phone number) info. Some of you will remember the last time was our February 14th swim night whith was Valentine's day. We made a last minute move to the ABC Country Restaurant one block to the south and they treated us very well. Our VP, Tom Dunn posted signs about the change on Boston Pizza's doors and several people found us over at ABC. We have decided that twice is enough and that the second time will be the last time. Therefore this will be a permanent move and we will be having dinner at the ABC Country Restaurant before each swim from now on. The address is on our swim info page under "Events".

Skinnydipper Summer Cruise
Posted 2 February 2009

We are pleased to announce that we have booked the MV Someday again for a cruise on beautiful Indian Arm. Our cruise will be from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, August 15th. We will have more details at our February swim!

New Group
Posted 2 February 2009

A few of our younger members are forming a group for the younger generation who are interested in the nudist lifestyle. Social events, activities, and trips with people who share the same interests are just a few of the ideas that are brewing. If you're looking for a safe, fun, and supportive group geared towards those under 35 years of age, we'd like to hear from you! Please feel free to contact us at ya.group@club.skinnydipper.ca to sign up, with any questions you might have or suggestions of what you'd like to do. We look forward to seeing you!
